School Closure Letter from Headteacher

Dear Parent / Carers 

 

Following the advice from the government the school will be closed to all students, apart from those of key workers or vulnerable students, from 3.15pm on Friday 20th March. As a school we are committed to continuing to provide support and learning opportunities to students during this time. 

 

During the school closure teachers will continue to provide lessons and learning materials for students using Google Classroom. Staff will set work in line with the students current timetable, which can be found on the SIMS app or on the Intouch message that will be sent to you today. Teachers will ensure that work for each lesson is placed into the google classroom for each period on the timetable by 8.30am on each day.

 

Staff will provide students with clear instructions for what needs to be completed during each timetabled lesson. They will ensure that there are a range of activities for students to complete. The types of learning which may be set include powerpoints, worksheets, GCSE pod videos and tasks, Maths Watch and Exam papers. Some staff may also use the video conferencing facility in the Google Hangout section to deliver live content to students. Information on this will be found in the google classroom instructions for the lesson. 

 

For students who do not have access to the internet we have provided the students with a pack of work to complete during their time off. If students have not been provided with one of these packs but require one please contact the school reception. 

 

We understand that this style of the delivery of lessons is very different for students. You can support your child by checking the work that they have completed for each hour of their timetabled lessons.

The government announced that all of the examinations that were due to take place in May and June for Year 11 and 13 students have been cancelled. The government has confirmed that they are going to work with Ofqual, the exam regulator, to ensure that students get the qualifications that they need. As of this morning we have not received confirmation of what this will look like. Schools are due to receive further updates during today. I will write directly to the parents of Year 11 and Year 13 students when we have further information.
