YEAR 11

PE Department

Football

The season came to a close on Thursday 30.3.17 with the Year 11’s reaching their 3rd consecutive County Cup Final. Having won the County cup in Year 9 and losing in extra time in Year 10, the boys were up for the game and wanted to win the trophy back.

The final was played at King George V playing fields against a very strong opposition in Thomas Hardye. We have not played Thomas Hardye in the past 3 years so the boys were going into the unknown. During the first 10 minutes of the game, QE were on top and created some good chances, notably one falling to Isaac Thomas, who unfortu- nately could not keep the ball down.

After 20 minutes Jack Tozer had to go off injured for the remainder of the game due to a knee injury. Davey Lucas came on in his place and was outstanding. At half time the score was 0-0. A very even game with both teams creating chances but neither able to capitalize on them.

10 minutes into the 2nd half and QE could not clear their lines and the ball reached their striker, Harrison Bowles pulled off an amazing save, still QE could not clear their lines and the ball fell to Thomas Hardye’s winger who tucked the ball away. 1-0 down!!

We changed formation to 4-3-3. With 10 minutes left it did not look good for QE, the chances had stopped coming and Thomas Hardye found it easy to clear their lines. With 8 minutes to go, some great play down the right wing and Davey Lucas crossed the ball to Ryan Webber at the back post, who calmly volleyed the ball in. 1-1!!!!

Final whistle went, extra time (AGAIN!!).

Thomas Hardye were awarded a penalty in the first couple of minutes of extra time after Jacob Leigh brought down their Striker. 2-1 Thomas Hardye!!!

It then became a QE onslaught where the boys threw everything they had left, including long throws into the box by Sam Heselden but Thomas Hardye kept clearing their lines, Dan Hunt had a great chance to level but unfortunately not his day as it sailed over the bar!!

Final Whistle went – 2-1 to Thomas Hardye!!

Huge congratulations to Thomas Hardye for winning, and to QE for not giving up. Both teams were a credit for playing some great football!! It has been a huge honor being a part of this team for the last 3 years!! They have played some great football and achieved amazing highs and lows!!
