Art and Design

The Art Department offers all students an exciting and challenging experience to develop their creativity and imagination in an enjoyable and relaxed environment. They have opportunities to undertake work on a range of scales and to experiment with print making and sculpture along with drawing and painting. All studies are underpinned by research into the work of others.

KS4
KS4 students experience a broad based course within the endorsed AQA Fine Art paper, however our experienced staff have the versatility to adapt to students’ interests and skills to most AQA endorsed papers. Although students develop their coursework through structured experiences of skills, observational work and research we also aim to develop individualised, personalised learning as a key part of their experience. Students can expect to attend two visits to galleries and museums and attend extra curricular classes during the course.

KS5
An A Level Fine Art and Photography exhibition at the end of each academic year celebrates the success of our Post 16 students and inspires the year groups in lower school.

Personalised learning is key to the success of our KS5 courses. AQA Fine Art and Photography are responded to with innovative ideas and teaching styles. Over the AS courses students are encouraged to develop their technical and research skills and working outside of their comfort zones. They are welcome to use the department in their free lessons for private study, adopting the working ethos of Post 16 students. ‘A’ Level students are invited to attend a range of day trips to galleries and museums, as well as work with artists in residence.

Extra Curricular provision for Art Students

During the course of the year we offer the possibility of artists in residence, courses outside of school and links with local galleries, artists and photographers. We also work with Ferndown Upper School our link school, where figure drawing for KS5 has been advantageous.

The Art department offer an open-house policy for out of school classes 3.15 – 4.30pm, inviting all year groups to use our facilities and develop their work and skills further.
